Rehabilitation Programme

This seek to promote acceptance and integration of persons with visual impairment through:

  • Independent Living Skills
  • Orientation and Mobility skills
  • Braille literacy
  • Adaptive Computer Training (CAT)
  • Psychosocial Counseling
  • Talent enhancement
  • Job placement for PWVI
  • Transcription services
  • Disability mainstreaming auditing and training
  • Equipping learning institutions with assistive devices
  • Support institutions come up with disability mainstreaming strategic framework, polices and guidelines

Centre for Adaptive Technology (CAT)

The visually impaired and the sighted gain another universal language that helps to enhance their employability. The three to four-months training in JAWS and Magic covers:

  • Introduction to computer and Operating system
  • Microsoft word, Micro soft Excel
  • Microsoft Access, MS Powerpoint
  • Internet

KSB also organizes for in-service CAT training and accommodation services for those in need of hostel facilities. CAT training cost is Ksh 21,000 as of 2015.

KSB also supplies other electronic gadgets such as Brilliant Braille display, Braille Note taker, Wireless Keyboard for use with IPhone or IPad, Eye pal solo reader, embossers among others

Resource Centre

KSB has a one stop shop where all assistive devices can be gotten. This includes:

  • Pre Braille Materials
  • Braille equipments
  • Talking watches and calculators
  • Braille Transcription
  • Braille Watches
  • Mobility canes
  • Other equipment for other disability

Mobility and Daily Living Skills

In order to restore maximum attainable functionality, KSB runs trainings aimed at making the newly blinded persons to be mobile and functional in all aspects of life throughout the year. This includes:

  • Mobility and cane skills
  • Indoor and outdoor activities
  • Protection skill/li>
  • Personal hygiene and grooming skills.

Talking Book Library

This is a vehicle in fight against illiteracy among the visually impaired in Kenya. It serves as an edutainment for the KSB membership. The library has over 1,600 books in form of audio tapes and CD's. The books are in English featuring exhilarating aspects of life including romance, crime, suspense, biographies, travel, history, and travel among others. The location of the user is not an impediment as books are send via Courier Services thanks to our partnership with G4S. The library is run by expatriates and volunteers from EA Women's League.
